No.40 Referenced from ~ Part2 - Chapter 2 - Easy Study 6-3 Orthodoxy gives way to validity ultimately
Therefore, historical Jesus studies, which are concerned with verifying the "validity" of faith, have the potential to shake up the "orthodoxy" of the Christian faith. Historical Jesus studies attempt to grasp what the historical truth is. When it does, historical research is willing to change the existing orthodoxy of Christianity. Historical research prioritizes validity over orthodoxy, and believes that orthodoxy is determined by validity. Needless to say, such an endeavor involves great seriousness, and an unprepared faith must avoid being suddenly confronted with it. However, we should remember that in the end, orthodoxy gives way to validity. This is because Christianity is a religion with an eschatology of final resolution. Nevertheless, since we are currently on the "road to the end" in the Christian worldview and the historical Jesus research is still in the "exploration stage," we must always be cautious in our judgments. |
