No.20 Referenced from ~ Part1 - Chapter 3 - Christianity Proposition 1 Resurrection: Principle of the establishment of the Apostles' faith - "Restoration of Known Truth" Type
If the miracle of Jesus' resurrection renewed the faith of the apostles, then their new faith would be the same as and an extension of the faith they had in Jesus because of his miracles in the age of the Gospel. The reason is that these are all faiths based on miracles. In this case, the reason why the apostles could not have firm faith in the age of the Gospel would be this: the miracles of Jesus in his lifetime were not great enough. The miracles that Jesus performed during his lifetime were not enough for the apostles to have firm faith, but after seeing the supreme miracle of his resurrection, even the insensitive apostles had no choice but to believe. However, this would make the faith of the apostles seem disrespectful. More importantly, this view has the problem of not properly evaluating the significance of the miracles that Jesus performed in his lifetime. Therefore, it is accurate to say that the apostles gained new faith not because of Jesus' resurrection, but because of the interpretation they had of Jesus' resurrection. |
