They are not saying that the Bible's accounts are lies. They are saying that it doesn't matter whether they are lies or true.

In the Enlightenment view, if Christianity is a high-minded religion, it must teach "this is how it should be done no matter what the world is like," not "this is how it should be done because the world is like this. In this way, Christianity should be a teaching that does not depend on the fact of the world. Therefore, it should be understood that "whether Jesus taught as just written in the Gospels" is not important at all. For even if Jesus did not teach it that way, its importance lies in the nobility of the teaching itself.

The arguments of those who advocate this kind of thought differ from Christianity in their standards of value regarding facts and beliefs. They would say "So what?" even if the historical accounts of the Bible were proven to be true. They are not saying that the Bible's accounts are lies. They are saying that it doesn't matter whether they are lies or true.
