There are things we can understand by looking at Jesus, and things we cannot understand by looking at Jesus.

Whatever impression it may give, Bultmann's assertion that "the acquisition of historical facts does not bring faith," must be regarded as utterly obvious and undeniable in so far as it leads to the following.

Our faith includes things we can understand by looking at Jesus and things we cannot understand by looking at Jesus.

We can know what Jesus taught, whether he performed miracles, and whether he was resurrected by looking at him. However, we cannot understand whether he is Christ, whether he is the Son of God, or whether the redemption of the cross is effective, no matter how much we look at Jesus.

The disciples who lived with Jesus for about three years were in exactly the same situation, and although they were very close to Jesus, they ultimately could not put their full trust in him.
